Description EN

This OpenCaching North America BIT cache is located in Battlefield Park in Stoney Creek.

Park in the lot, not in the driveway. Find the bridge that leads to the Gage house and to the Battlefield Monument. The BIT cache is below the bridge. Coordinates were taken while standing on the bridge directly above where the BIT cache is located.

While at the park, check out the Battlefield Monument. It was constructed between 1910 and 1913 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Stoney Creek during the War of 1812. American troops were camped out in and around this property as they marched from Fort George to Burlington Heights. A daring night attack by an outnumbered British army sent the American retreating to Forty Mile Creek. They were pursued there by British ships, and retreated back to Fort George and soon abandoned the Niagara Peninsula altogether. This was a major victory for the British during the war of 1812.

The night attack might not have happened had it not been for a local boy. Having learned of the American positions and also having acquired the password used to get by American sentries, this boy rode from here to Burlington Heights to provide the information to the British. The Logging Password for this BIT cache is a nod to that boy. Please enter is exactly as it is shown on the BIT cache
