Description EN

The coordinates will bring you to an overlook with a great view of the falls.  The falls were one of George Washington's favorite places and he rode to this spot on his horse many times.  The falls were also one of a handful of major challenges to navigation by watercraft along the Potomac River - a project championed by Washington.  The Patowmack Canal, which George Washington partially funded, was a one mile bypass canal that began operating in 1785 to give small barges the opportunity to skirt around the falls and to distribute manufactured goods upstream and raw materials downstream.  More information on this and many other features of the park can be found at the visitor center and on informational signs throughout the park.

In order to claim a find on this cache, e-mail the answers to the following questions:

1. European settlers saw the river as a source for transportation, expansion, and what?

2. What did Native Americans use to make canoes.

In addition, in order to log a find, you need to have physically visited this cache's location. In other words, please no armchair logging.

There is a $5 fee per vehicle to access Great Falls Park.
