Homeland security starts at home. This M60A3 Tank may be inert, but the local Milita is active and well ready.


 


The M60A3 is a fully tracked, heavily armored, close combat tank. Enhancements over the M60A1 consist of a laser rangefinder, an improved engine and transmission, a thermal shroud for the main gun, an engine smoke generator, a solid state computer, and a thermal gunner's sight. The M60A3 was last producedfor the U.S. Army in 1980, however, production continued for Foreign Military Sales until May 1985. The main gun is the M68 105mm rifled cannon. Secondary armament includes an M85 .50 caliber machine gun, and two six-barreled smoke gernade launchers. The tank carries 63 main gun rounds, 900 .50 caliber rounds and 5,950 7.62mm rounds. The crew consistsof a commander, gunner, loader. and driver. The system has a combat weight of 5.7 tons, and has a top speedof 30 miles per hour. The M60A3 carries 375 gallons of fuel, giving it a cruising range of 280 miles.
