This OpenCaching North America Webcam Cache is located in the heart of the ski resort town of Fernie, British Columbia. Nestled in the rugged Rocky Mountains, this small city of approximately 5000 is as rich in history as it is in scenery. The webcam is located in the front window of Freshies and is focused on a small “town square” area across the road. The webcam is not streamed live - instead, an image is captured and displayed each second. You can view the current image at fernie.com/webcams/freshies/. NOTE: to capture the image, be sure to use the “screen capture” method, as opposed to selecting to save the image. On my android phone, trying to save the image results a video being saved instead of a single image.

The best place to stand for getting the webcam shot image may depend on vehicular traffic and in particular where cars are parked. When there are no cars parked within the camera’s line of sight, it is pretty straightforward - however, you might need to move about a bit to find the spot which puts you in the image. If you look at the current webcam stream and the images I took in late June, it also looks like the camera has been moved just slightly - was probably bumped. When we visited, the best place to be in the image was at the posted coordinates (near a light post), but currently the best spot appears to be near the sign.
If you are particularly confident, why not cross the street and get up and close with the camera? It’s located in the upper left portion of the main storefront window (see images below)
there’s lots of wifi channels in downtown Fernie but they are all locked. There is free unlocked wi-fi at the Fernie Museum (which also has the Fernie Museum Guest Book Cache. There’s also free wifi at the various chain coffee and fast food establishments along Highway 3.
Logging Requirements
To log this cache, you must obtain a webcam screenshot of you at the posted coordinates. Any Found It logs without an accompanying webcam screenshot will be deleted.
