Description EN

The Wincopin Trails in Savage Park are some of my favorite in the area.  Be sure to check the historic information posted at the trailhead at the suggested parking area.  You may also spot me at the sign, but I won't be able to see you.

The park and trails are open from DAWN to DUSK.  Be sure to respect the hours and all other park regulations.

There have been many caches along these trails, over the years.  When I first started caching, one of the early muti-caches I did was called Treasure Island - Land's End and the final was located here.  Unfortuanately, the island where the first stage was located ended up being more or less washed away and the cache was archived.  I asked for and received permission from the original cache owner, who also helps maintain this part of Savage Park for the county, to use his spot. So, if you found it, this will be an easy find for you.

From the original cache page:  Along the trails, you may see Blue Cranes, White Tail Deer, Beavers, Foxes, Pileated Woodpeckers, pruned American Hollies, and any number of other beautiful birds and trees. You will pass rock quarries (Patuxent Pyramids) and an old bridge pier that once carried railroad traffic to Savage Mill. You may even see the tree that wanted to be a railroad tie. You will pass the remaining, standing bridge support that once supported the Gabbro Bridge that carried railroad traffic from Guilford quarries to Savage Mill, Laurel, and points south.

The cache is located beyond the southern tip of the green trail at the confluence of the Little and Middle Patuxent Rivers.  It may be tempting to park where you can cross the river to get to this, but the crossing and the ascent could be dangerous at times and I'd very much recommend using hte parking coords along Vollmerhausen Road.

While there is an unmarked continuation of the trail on the western edge, it is partially washed away.  I'd highly recommend heading off the main Green Trail when you are about half way between the two rivers.  This should make sense when you are there.

You're looking for a regular sized lock-n-lock type container with a variety of swag.  When I got out to place the cache, it turned out the container I had was really slightly bigger that it should have been for the spot, but managed to make it work for now.  Please be careful when rehiding it, until I get out with a replacement container.
