This OpenCaching North America Virtual Cache will bring you high above the Cohocton River and the Village of Bath N.Y. for a spectacular view of the town and surrounding countryside.
This is one of those overlooks that is highly “overlooked” – not exactly visible from the town and interstate below and not a lot of signage to get you off the interstate and up the road. We stayed overnight in Bath and checked out Mossy Bank Park just to have a look. Driving up to the park, I was aware of the elevation change but was still surprised when we reached the lookout, how much higher we were about the valley
Mossy Bank Park is 167.5 acres and was donated to the village of Bath by the Davenport Estate in 1958. It was undeveloped until 1963 when the face of the cliff was hit by lightning which caused a forest fire that lasted for days. Roads were cut through the woods to allow fire equipment to reach the site of the fire. After the fire was out, the village board decided to develop the property into a public park.
