I hid this cache on my first training hike for Mt. Whitney this
summer. Call it my pre-test.
As I neared the point where I would need to turn back, I
realized that I was close to the elevation of Baldy Notch. I
thought that on my next training hike, I might take the ski lift to
the notch, and then hike the rest of the way to the summit. Sounds
like cheating, no?
Well, I'll show you! I'll hike to ABOVE the notch's
elevation!
MapSource shows Baldy Notch at between 7743' and 7874'. I hid
this cache EXACTLY where my MapSource topo map shows the trail
crossing the 8005' contour. Of course, the map doesn't EXACTLY
match reality, so the cache ended up being approximately 40' off
the trail.
