Indoor Cache. President Lincoln’s Cottage is a historic site and museum situated on a beautiful campus in Northwest Washington, D.C. A national monument since July 7, 2000, the Lincoln cottage - where President Lincoln wrote the emancipation proclamation is both a historic site and a musuem. Our girl scout troop, Troop 5383 in Montgomery County, Maryland established this site after a challenge to pass a traveling bug to as many national monuments as possible. Established by President Clinton under the 1906 Antiquities Act this place is preserved. We worked with the musuem staff to hide the cache after learning about Abraham Lincoln and his time at the cottage during the summers from 1862-1864 . The visitor center is free to access during visiting hours (check Lincolncottage.org) and you do not need to check in to access the box (although, you should follow the sign that says "check in" ) - Security guards will check your ID and direct you where to park.
