I took a long bike ride through Columbia, Savage, and Jessup on this rather cold March morning. Along the way, I found 1 TerraCache, 2 opencaching.us caches, and 2 benchmarks - not a bad haul. After visiting the first stage a couple of months ago and calculating the final coordinates at home, I returned today for the find. First, I definitely think there's a typo in the formula for the parking waypoint. Using E*2 in place of E should bring you to a good place to park the car and begin the bushwhack to the cache. That's where I started, and it worked well for me. There's a bit of a trail there leading into the woods. I wheeled the bike a short way down the trail, leaned it against a tree, and bushwhacked the remaining 300' or so to GZ. Not a bad approach this time of year, but may get "growth-y" in the summer. The coordinates were good and I found the cache quickly. It is still in great shape after the maintenance in 2018. I happily added my signature below sfcchaz's, just shy of 5 years after he scored the FTF. This was a great cache! Thanks for placing it and keeping it going.

I headed out on a long-ish (for me) bike ride this morning, and grabbed a couple of caches along the way. This cache has been on my "to-do" list since the first time I rode out this way, which was probably late summer or early fall. Today, I stopped by the first stage and gathered all of the necessary info. As usual, I was short on time, so I waited until I got home to make the calculations for the final. I'll swing by soon and see if I can find the cache. I think I have a pretty good shot at scoring STF 4 years and 9 months after the FTF. :)
Note - The parking coordinates that I calculated were 4.5 miles away in the middle of Patuxent Research Refuge, which is obviously wrong. I noticed that if I used E*2 instead of E, I got coordinates that made much more sense. So, either there is an error in the formula, or I wrote down the wrong value for E. When I revisit, I'll double check my numbers again and report back.

Stopped by to check today and cache was just where it should be, thought mostly buried in dirt and tree rot. The lock-n-lock container was a bit damp inside, so I've replaced with a new contrainer I saved from the trash (if you can believe it) and placed it in a manner which would prevent it from becoming buried and keep it dry..
I'm working on checking on all my OCNA hides and will post notes as I check them.
Happy Trails!
