I have stared at this cache for a long time, just waiting for a good time to do it----and today was the day!  It was a brisk-but-beautiful afternoon and I was in the mood for some hiking, so I came to Glen Helen to grab some caches.  I stopped first at the Nature Center and obtained a trail map (highly recommended) and at first thought I would make the hike from there.  Seeing the distance involved, I instead drove over to John Bryan State Park and found a much more convenient access point.

It was very quiet in the Pine Forest today, the silence broken only by the knocking of a distant woodpecker.  I enjoyed the serene beauty here and lingered a while just to take it all in.  After taking a few pictures and one last look around, I headed back the same way I came in, then made a slight detour to check out the nearby Horace Mann monument.

Email on the way---Thanks for bringing me here, and for my first OC find of 2015!

Wow - FTF on a cache placed a year and a half ago!!!! Awesome Cool!!!!!

I love this area back here but don't hike in as often as I should.  I made my way in from the John Bryan Campground, just because it was a really nice night and I needed to stretch my legs.  One of my favorite things in the world is the smell of the pine forest and the sound damping of the pine needles on the forest floor - Zaleski State Forest has a really nice crop of pine trees at the beginning of the backpack trail, much like this one only a little less dense.

On my way out, I came across a deer - not more than 30 feet away - just staring at me.  So I stopped and got the gps ready for a pic (camera is in the gps) when the deer started walking towards me.  The deer got within 15 feet or so as I was snapping pictures, sniffed me a little, and then nonchalantly sauntered off.  Great evening in the pines!

Email sent with the required answers and pics are on the way.

OC find #3

Thanks!
