2488. FTF (finally). Had the day off for MLK Day, so decided to head to the Zoo to claim a couple virtuals. I took my time and enjoyed the animals, instead of rushing through and then heading off for more caches. Thanks so much for giving me an excuse to visit for the first time since the day before I started caching (5/29/06).
In addition to the stops necessary for the cache, I spent a good amount of time with the great apes, particularly the western lowland gorillas and the orangutans - my favorites.
Though, a favorite scene today was at the lion enclosure. The one male lion was beginning to climb down to where the pair of femail lions were, when he was sharply rebuffed by some serious growls from both. He non-chalantly turned around and climbed back up to the top level, as if trying to say, "I didn't want to come down there, anyway. I am the King of the Jungle and am doing exactly what I wanted to do to start with."
I was concerned that it might be a bit cold and maybe I was nuts for wanting to spend 4 or 5 hours walking around the zoo to claim two caches. I dressed well and since there wasn't much of a wind, it was fine.
