THE STATION IS LOCATED IN THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF THE BIG BLACK MOUNTAIN LOOKOUT TOWER, ABOUT 6 MILES NORTHWEST OF BIG STONE GAP, VIRGINIA AND ABOUT 5 MILES WEST OF APPLACIA, VIRGINIA.
TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE POST OFFICE IN APPLACIA, GO WEST ON U.S. HIGHWAY 58 FOR 0.25 MILE TO THE JUNCTION STATE HIGHWAY 160, TURN RIGHT ON STATE HIGHWAY 160 AND GO 8.25 MILES TO A CROSSROAD AT TOP OF MOUNTAIN AND THE KENTUCKY STATE LINE, TURN LEFT ON DIRT ROAD AND GO 1.1 MILES TO THE AZIMUTH MARK ON THE RIGHT, CONTINUE ON DIRT ROAD FOR 0.25 MILE TO A LARGE RADAR STATION ON THE RIGHT, CONTINUE ON DIRT ROAD FOR 0.1 'MILE TO A FORK, TURN LEFT AND GO 0.1 MILE TO THE LOOKOUT TOWER AND STATION.
THE STATION MARK IS 13.3 FEET WEST OF THE SOUTHEAST LEG OF LOOKOUT TOWER, 12.0 FEET SOUTH OF THE NORTHWEST LEG OF LOOKOUT TOWER AND 5.3 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE SOUTHWEST LEG OF LOOKOUT TOWER. IT IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN A SQUARE CONCRETE POST, FLUSH AND STAMPED RADAR 1963.
REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 IS 47.4 FEET NORTH OF THE NORTHWEST LEG OF LOOKOUT TOWER AND 9.9 FEET SOUTHEAST OF THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF A CONCRETE FOUNDATION. IT IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN A SQUARE CONCRETE POST WHICH PROJECTS 6-INCHES AND STAMPED RADAR NO 1 1963.
BENCH MARK P 329 IS 60.7 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE SOUTHEAST LEG OF 'LOOKOUT TOWER AND 58.8 FEET EAST OF THE NORTHEAST LEG OF LOOKOUT TOWER. IT IS A STANDARD BENCH MARK DISK CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN OUTCROPPING BEDROCK WHICH PROJECTS 3-FEET AND STAMPED P329 1953.
