Description EN

This OpenCaching North America Virtual Cache will bring you to my favorite location in the Allegheny National Forest.

The Rimrock overlook offers a stunning view over the Allegheny reservoir and the surround forests and hills or the ANF. Perched atop a large rock outcrop, the view is largely unobstructed by trees. And while the view is worth the visit, there is another feature here that is equally impressive. The posted coordinates will bring you to the top of an amazing series of 89 hand-built stone stairs carved into the granite rock at the Rimrock Overlook. This set of stairs is spectacular in design, winding through a natural stone archway. Be warned that the stairs are steep and narrow - a few feet wide at best. Various sources refer to these stone stairs as “Cornplanters Stairs” and claim they were built by Chief Cornplanter or the Cornplanter Indians, although I was unable to find anything official to substantiate those statements.

There is a parking area at the trailhead with washrooms and picnic tables. The trail begins here and descends down 82 wooden stairs to the Rimrock Overlook. The area is open year round but is not maintained in winter.

Logging Requirements

To log this cache, you must post a photo of you with your GPS-enabled device at the Rimrock Overlook, and preferably at the stone stairs. Any Found It logs without the required photo will be deleted.
