This is one in a series that I have placed around Burleson County. Go to the posted coordinates and then use the Hint directions to find the cache. If all else fails, use the Final Location waypoint. These are small stamps. You will need to bring your own stamp pad or marker since the container does not have one in it. Bring a pen.
This box is located off of the Overlook Circle south of the dam on Lake Somerville, just past the spillway. There are a couple of benches up there and it's a great place to sit and watch sunsets and look over the lake. My son was with me when we planted this one and he said the plant area looks like something out of Hunger Games. There were quite a few species of wildflowers in bloom here at the end of March, included bluebonnets, phlox and coreopsis.
From the listed coordinates, the trail turns sharply to the left and drops steeply toward a creek. There will be large rocks in the trail at this point, be careful if it is slick after a recent rain. Go about 55 steps and the trail again turns left toward the creek. Look up to your right and you will see a twin cedar about 17 steps off the trail. The fox is hidden behind the tree. It is tethered so it doesn't end up downhill.
You can go back the way you came and turn left at the trail junction to go to the BVG Letterbox or go back out to the trailhead. Or...you can continue on the trail and it will loop back around to the gravel road. It has a nice view over the spillway.
In case you are not familiar with Letterboxes:
- Bring your own personal stamp (and stamp pad or marker)
- Bring your own letterbox journal
- Stamp your personal stamp in the cache log, sign and date it
- Don't have a stamp? Use a marker and make a thumbprint. Make a drawing out of it.
- Use the stamp in the cache to stamp your journal so you will have a record of your visit
