Patuxent Research Refuge, National Wildlife Visitor Center
Trail Guide - Print before you and save the refuge the expense.
Open Daily 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Closed Federal Holidays
Trails & Grounds Open Sunrise to Sunset, Closed Federal Holidays
If you are here while the visitor center is open, you can also pick up a copy of their National Wildlife Visitor Center GPS Adventure packet. I've based these virtuals on the 6 activities that are part of the GPS Adventure, so they will be visiting the same locations. If you complete 3 of the 6 activities, you can return to the Visitor Center for a small prize.
Now for the cache, itself. This will bring you to a small wild garden near the entrance to the Visitor Center that represents examples of multiple habitat types. You may have the opportunity to observe butterfiles, frogs and toads.
Logging Requirements: Visit the site in person. Find the informational sign that discusses the various habitats. The Log Password will be the name of the plant that the Monarch Butterfly is shown on. The information IS specified on the sign.
Please also post a photo of your visit to the garden. It does not have to include your GPS or yourself unless you like.
Please Note: This cache was originally placed with the cooperation of Amy Shoop of the Patuxent Research Refuge. Please provide input on your experience with the cache and during your visit, in general, in your log. For additional information about the refuge and activities there, you may contact NWVC thru their Contact Page (South Tract).
