I finally got to climb Lone Cone earlier this year. I had been waiting for 20 years to do it. When I was a kid, I went to camp at the OA Greager Scout Ranch, and each week, on Wednesday, they would take a group of Boy Scouts on the hike. They would be excused from all other activities that day to clime Lone Cone. I never got a chance to do it when I was a kid.
Once at the top I was able to see all 4 states nearby, and I could even see Shiprock behind Mesa Verde. I also could see the Elk Range and the Grand Mesa. This is definately my favorite peak climb to date. We also had the cone to ourselves except for one other man who climbed the Northeast ridge, and came down the north ridge.
In order to Log your find, please take a photo of you and your group at the summit of the cone. My friend Zach and I took some photos with the Wilson's in the background, but feel free to use any backdrop you would like! There are so many to choose from!
