Flashlight: check. Backup flashlight: check. Kneepads: check. Work gloves: check. Two working pens: check. Adreneline: check. Stupidity injector at full throttle: oh, checka checka check.
The thermometer in the cachemobile read 28 degrees before I stepped out and assembled my gear. I had just dropped off the kids at school and had intended to get to my jobsite with the intention of attempting this cache later in the day after work. With the knowledge that the "trailhead" was only two miles away from my location, I couldn't resist the immediate challenge that this cache presented. Fully prepared and oblivious to the cold, I assaulted the the Open Hole without a bit of hesitation wondering how I've reached a point in my life where I'm completely at ease in a storm drain. Memories of LTOTC came flooding back, and I found myself smiling as I worked each section of the trail. I studied my surroundings carefully as I went along, and I enventually sighted the perfectly secured, yellow prize - FTF baby!! I signed in and quickly made my way back to the cachemobile where I stowed my gear and sipped my still-hot coffee. 18 minutes from start to finish - I would be curious to know how others fare on this down and not-so-dirty journey. Not long enough to be grueling, but just right for a nice little challenge - there was one aspect of this trail that I particularly enjoyed, but I'll stay silent so others can anticipate the challenge. I called the CO to express my thanks for a nice cache, and I'll do so again here: GREAT cache and fun on a cold morning; my customer never even noticed that I was a bit late!
